Dear John, Please find below the response I've received from Surrey County Council: Dear Will, Thank you for your email of 9 May on behalf of your constituents/residents at Enterprise Place in Woking, regarding frustrations with the closure of Victoria Way car park and requests for additional spaces on Church Street East for the use of residents. I have consulted with our Parking Officer for the area to better understand this matter. I appreciate the residents' frustration regarding the parking issues they are facing since the Victoria Way car park closure. However, I understand from speaking to Woking Borough Council that spaces in other town centre car parks have been offered to Enterprise House residents and discussions between the two parties remain ongoing. With regard to Church Road East, there are a total of 10 on-street parking spaces in this road. Four of these spaces are reserved for Electric Vehicles to charge whilst parked for a maximum of two hours. The remaining parking spaces in Church Street East have a one-hour time limit as they are intended to be used for short term visits to the town centre and have a regular turnover of vehicles using local businesses and services. These spaces are not intended to be occupied by one vehicle for a long period of time. In Area 1 of the Controlled Parking Zone (Town Centre), no on-street permits are available to any residential development. We would not wish to end this rule and set a new precedent. The infrastructure in the centre would not be able to cope with the volume of vehicles. Furthermore, with limited on-street parking capacity, the area would become congested with vehicles circling round unsuccessfully, resulting in increased pollution and leading to more frustration. For these reasons we do not believe the parking spaces in Church Street East are suitable for use as residential parking. I am sorry that this is not the response you were hoping for, but I hope that the reasoning is understandable and thank you again for contacting me about these matters. Kind regards Matt Furniss Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Economic Growth I am disappointed that the Council will not consider the use of Church Street East for parking held by permit holders however I do hope the above provides you further clarification. If there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know. Kind regards, Will Will Forster Member of Parliament for Woking
